Erasmus+ Staff Mobility to Catalonia: How Timely

Coláiste Ghlór na Mara ar an ardán idirnáisiúnta!

Tá rímead orainn go bhfuil Coláiste Ghlór na Mara mar rannpháirtithe ar thionscnamh Erasmus+ dár dteideal How Timely – togra uaillmhianach a dhíríonn ar mhúineadh agus ar chur chun cinn na mionteangacha.

Thaistil Múinteoir Kiana agus Múinteoir Grace go dtí an Chatalóin chun freastal ar chomhdháil leis na comhordaitheoirí agus le múinteoirí/léachtóirí eile ó scoileanna sa tSairdín agus sa Chatalóin atá bainteach leis an tionscnamh.

Ar an gcéad lá, d’eitil na múinteoirí go Barcelona, áit ar bhain siad sult as cuairt a thabhairt ar radharcanna cáiliúla na cathrach, lena n-áirítear an Sagrada Família. Ina dhiaidh sin, bhain siad taitneamh as lón blasta sa chathair sular thaistil siad go Vic, cathair atá suite taobh amuigh de Barcelona.

Reáchtáladh imeachtaí an turais in Ollscoil Vic. Bhí deis ag na múinteoirí bualadh le rannpháirtithe eile an tionscnaimh agus bhí deis acu aithne a chur ar an scoil.

Mar chuid den chlár, cuireadh modúil teagaisc nua i láthair a dhíríonn ar fhotheidil agus ar dhúbláil. Déanann na modúil nuálacha seo iniúchadh ar bhealaí cruthaitheacha agus praiticiúla chun daltaí a spreagadh leis na mionteangacha trí mheán na meán closamhairc. Bhí an deis ag na múinteoirí na modúil seo a thriail iad féin, rud a thug léargas luachmhar dóibh ar an gcaoi ar féidir iad a úsáid go héifeachtach sa seomra ranga chun scileanna teanga, feasacht chultúrtha agus spreagadh na ndaltaí a fhorbairt.

Críochnaíodh an lá le béile blasta tapas i gcomhluadar a chéile. Ba chathair dhraíochtúil í Vic, agus bhí an áit acu féin sa tráthnóna. Bhí sé thar a bheith speisialta soilse na Nollag a fheiceáil ar fud an bhaile.

Ar an dara lá, bhí deis ag na múinteoirí imeachtaí Erasmus+ na scoile a chur i láthair agus a bpleananna don todhchaí a roinnt. Bhí baill eile an tionscnaimh an-tógtha leis na turais agus leis an obair a bhí déanta ag an scoil go dtí seo.

Míle buíochas le Múinteoirí Kiana agus Grace as ucht na hionadaíochta a rinne siad don scoil thar lear. Léargas iontach atá ann ar an tumoideachas i suíomhanna teangeolaíochta eile, a chabhróidh linn anseo i gColáiste Ghlór na Mara.

We are delighted that Coláiste Ghlór na Mara is the a participant in an Erasmus+ initiative entitled 'How Timely' – an ambitious project focused on the teaching and promotion of minority languages.

Múinteoir Kiana and Múinteoir Grace travelled to Catalonia to attend a conference with the project organisers and with teachers from partner schools in Sardinia and Catalonia.

On the first day, the teachers flew to Barcelona, where they had the opportunity to visit some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Sagrada Família. They also enjoyed a delicious lunch in the city before travelling onwards to Vic, a town located just outside Barcelona.

The programme of events took place at the University of Vic. The teachers had the opportunity to meet other project participants and to introduce themselves and their school. The importance of minority languages in the participating countries was discussed, and there was particular interest in the school context of CGNM and in how the Irish language is promoted within the school. The teachers also learned about the linguistic contexts of schools in Catalonia and Sardinia.

As part of the programme, new teaching modules focusing on subtitling and dubbing were introduced. These innovative modules explore creative and practical ways of engaging students with minority languages through audiovisual media. The teachers had the opportunity to trial these modules firsthand, gaining valuable insight into how they can be used effectively in the classroom to develop language skills, cultural awareness and student motivation.

The day concluded with a delicious tapas meal shared together. Vic proved to be a charming town, and the group had the town to themselves in the evening. It was especially memorable to see the Christmas lights throughout the town.

On the second day, the teachers had the opportunity to present the school’s Erasmus+ activities and to outline their plans for the future. Other members of the project were very impressed by the trips and initiatives undertaken by the school to date.

Many thanks to Múinteoirí Kiana and Grace for representing the school abroad and for taking home such valuable insights regarding immersion-education in other linguistic settings.
